Sake Bar Design

  • Inspired by Shinto Shrines
To honor sake’s important role in sacred rituals in Japan for centuries, the bar’s pebbled pathway resembles that of a shrine. Look for the large sugidama (cedar bough balls) at the entrance, just like those found at sake breweries.
  • Shrine-Inspired Bar
The bar is built from wood and looks like a kamidana, a Shinto altar. Our staff will welcome you with a cup of sake, with good wishes for a fantastic visit to Tokyo.
  • A sense of sake in every detail
Wooden sake barrels, lamps made from masu cups, artwork inspired by the Kikkawa Brewery…. even the tables and chairs are made from repurposed barrel lids! Every detail is connected to brewing, making this an inspiring place for a drink.

    Kikkawa Brewery AFURI

The sake served at the bar are all from Kikkawa Brewery’s Afuri series. While maintaining the best of our traditions, such as using pure water from Mt. Oyama, we keep on pushing the boundaries of sake making. From brewing sake using yeast extracted from flowers and an ancient rice variety, to making the brewing process more sustainable through reducing waste by only polishing away 10% of the rice, to creating low-alcohol varieties, every bottle of Afuri is the result of our dedication and experimentation.

    BREWERY Kikkawa Jozo

Kikkawa was founded in 1917 in Isehara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. For over 100 years the brewers here have crafted sake using the clear water from an underground stream fed by Mt.Oyama’s meltwater, which is used for everything from washing rice to brewing. Tucked away in the foothills of sacred Mt. Oyama, for centuries the area has been a site of rain worship, and is also known as Afuri-yama (rainfall mountain).

    HOW TO ENJOY OUR SAKE

    • Obanzai Light Snacks
During afternoon lounge hours (1:30PM-5:00PM), the chef will serve little bites of Japanese dishes that pair perfectly with sake. Enjoy some nibbles and a glass or two before dinner.
    • Kimono-inspired Ice Cream Bars
Guests with a sweet tooth will want to purchase one of our original ice cream bars, created in collaboration with kimono designer Jotaro Saito and flavored with Afuri sake, matcha and fruit.
    • Self-service Bar
During the night lounge hours (6:00PM-10:00PM) guests can create their own cocktails using sake, flavorings and other drinks stocked at the bar.
    • MINI BAR

        SPECIAL TOUCHES

        Sake and Art

From the moment you step inside, every detail is inspired by the history and culture of sake. A huge shimenawa (sacred rope) hangs over the bar, as it would at a shrine where sake is presented to the gods. Lights made from square masu cups, a pebbled pathway and wooden brewing barrels are just some of the artistic touches that invite you to go deeper into the world of Japan’s most iconic drink.
